Odds & Ends

It rained last night and into today. For the first time in my life, I didn't want it to.

I love the rain, absolutely love it. I love the sound of it; I love the cold air that usually comes with it; I love the smell of wet earth and soaked leaves. I love to sit in a comfy chair with a cup of hot tea and a book, and stare out the window at the falling drops, instead of actually reading.

But it just rained for 6 days straight. It caused my trains to lose their minds. I had to ford rivers and cross lakes to get anywhere. The ground is so wet here, it literally can't take any more water. We've broken all kinds of records. And still it comes.

I wonder if this is what it feels like for Seattle-ites.

J had a theory about the trains: they're made of sponges, and they get so heavy when wet that they can't move at their normal speed. Monday of last week, I was 2.5 hours late getting home in the evening; the next day, only 30 minutes. Wednesday I was 45 minutes late getting to work and my boss let me go early because the trains were so unpredictable. Finally on Thursday the trains ran normally. Then Friday and Saturday, more rain.

One of my favorite places to be in the world is in bed. I type my journal while sitting in bed, I blog, I facebook (please, God, don't let that become a real verb in the OED!). I curl up in the crook of J's arm and cuddle and chat. We talk about our days, our dreams, our plans for vacations. We tell each other jokes and make each other laugh. Sometimes the kitties cuddle with us, one big happy family in the bed - although Aggie has been known to hog a bit. I love to snuggle under the covers when it's cold out, and I can feel my nose get cold while my body gets warm. I like to wake up in the morning, and know that I was sleeping and loving it and now I'm awake and still in bed and it feels wonderful.

The cats are currently in the box next to my bed, cuddling and licking each other. Well, Nick is licking Aggie's ears; she's biting his neck. She's a little vampire.

Jason and I are planning our vacation, in mid-February. I'm super excited! We're going to Orlando. We're getting a condo with a kitchenette - such a strange word: kitchenette. We're renting a car - hopefully the Kia Soul. "You can get with this, or you can get with that. You can get with this. This is kinda phat." We're going to Gatorland, Universal Studios, Cape Kennedy - they might actually be launching a shuttle when we're there! - and Harry Potter World! All kinds of other things, too, but J's handling most of the planning. One assignment he gave me, though, before we leave: start walking so my feet and legs are used to it, because we'll be walking a lot. He's already used to it from standing at his job for almost 8 hours a day.

In closing, I would like to say, the following is one of my favorite commercials of all time. It makes me want that car so bad!

That commercial has grown on me but I could get Rachel to even entertain this for a second. She won't even consider a KIA just because of this commercial. Talk about a grudge. Hehe.

You know, if I can consider a KIA - knowing they're now owned by Hyundai, and given the experience I had with them - then she can darn well get over a dumb commercial and consider them, too. So there! ;)
