in honor of the Rain

I open the window before sleep
so I'm ready, so I can hear Her
when She arrives

She wakes me deep in the night, Her
breath whispering across my skin,
gentle, soothing
quietly tempting my nostrils, arousing
memories, tastes, smells

I hear her soft footsteps moving
through the night, a single step,
pause
a double step, pause
a single step
soon She's running toward me, her children
all around Her, bounding, jumping, gleeful

Her love overflows
for earth, for insect,
for bird, for animal,
for me
a flash of light, She can't contain Her heart
exploding joy

I hear Her call my name!
long and low and rumbling and far
I hear Her call my name!
so near, so loud, shaking the trees,
shaking the air,
shaking me

I hear! I hear!
I wrap myself in Her voice
in the sound of my name
the sound of Her love.
She holds me for a moment
then recedes. She whispers my name as She leaves
breathing gently on my skin
breathing gently my name

A last flash of Her light, Her love
and I drift back to sleep, the sound of Her
calling my name
reverberates in my soul.

Great poem, Jess. I love how you personify the rain and how she is expressing herself to you and through other elements.
